Departmental conservatory of fruit species and ancient vines

As part of its environmental policy, the Department of the Tarn set up the Conservatory in 1986. At the heart of the department's "Vallon de l'Audoulou" sensitive natural area, the Conservatoire works to safeguard, identify, restore and promote cultivated and agricultural biodiversity. This biological wealth is collected from the former Midi Pyrénées region, helping to preserve the collective memory. It is part of a sustainable development approach. The 8 ha of plots at the foot of the fortified village of Puycelsi are home to more than 700 old varieties of pome fruit trees (apples and pears), stone fruit trees (plums, cherries and peaches) and more than 100 old vine varieties. These extensively-managed collection plots are managed using reasoned techniques.

Introductory courses in pruning, grafting and caring for fruit trees are organised every year during the 1st quarter.
A major sale of young fruit trees is held once a year in December.
Every two years, for one day in the autumn, the Department organises the "Biodiversity Rendezvous" on the Conservatoire site.

During the summer period, free guided tours (1 hour, see specific information sheet) on opening days:
- until 21 July at 2.30pm,
- from 22 July at 10.30 am.

Sale of fresh seasonal fruit (quantities and varieties vary according to the season).
Sale of apple juice: €3 per bottle or €15 per box of 6 bottles.
