Guided toursPuycelsi, or the aptly-named "fortress of the woods", seems to emerge magically from the heart of the forest. Standing on its rocky outcrop, it now offers one of the finest views in the region, and is a delight to gaze upon as far as the horizon.
Known as one of the strongholds of the Counts of Toulouse, did you know that its origins date back to prehistoric times?
Today, the ramparts and massive gates, the Gothic buildings, the church of Sainte Corneille with its astonishing blue ceiling decorated with acanthus leaves, and the chapel of Saint Roch, dedicated to the unfortunate victims of the plague, reveal the many facets of this town.
Castelnau-de-Montmiral, which means "mountain from which you can see", is home to some real treasures.
The first is in its very construction. It's the ideal setting to evoke the history of an avant-garde concept in the Middle Ages: the bastide (narrow streets running perpendicular to a central square surrounded by "covered" walls, fortifications, 14th and 15th century buildings, etc.).
The second is in the village church. It's a treasure that doesn't reveal itself until you find it, because you have to see it to believe it. Follow the guide!
