Gateway to the Tarn from Montauban, Salvagnac was built at 13e century on the basis of a Benedictine priory. A fortified town with a castle, it was almost entirely razed in the 16the during the wars of religion. Rebuilt in the 18the century, it dominates a magnificent cereal plain surrounded by agricultural hillsides.

Salvagnac, guardian of the Tescou plain

A former stronghold, Salvagnac today seems to watch over the Tescou plain, which flows peacefully towards Montauban.

The only vestige of the Middle Ages, the castle towers still bear witness to an ancient, warlike and tormented era. The cereal plain has since replaced the battlefields and offered abundant wheat harvests. The flour mill thus developed, shaping landscapes that change with the seasons, mixing in turn the gold of wheat, the green of forests and autumnal ochre. The Lo Cantel association perpetuates this know-how by developing a brand associating farmers, millers and bakers. The Lo Cantel bread is available in the best bakeries in Tarn!

To appreciate the landscapes and their changing colors, take the road that goes back down to Rabastens; it follows a magnificent ridge line. During your walks and hikes, you can come across the old Saint-Angel mill on the side of the road or the Bouisse chapel on the path to Saint-Jacques de Compostelle, founded by the Hospitallers of Jerusalem. The view is magnificent and throughout your journey, the landscape interpretation tablets will guide you in your escapades. A small traditional market awaits you on Wednesdays under the town hall market.

The Notre-Dame church

The church houses a treasure of sacred art featuring a processional cross from the 16the century listed as historical monuments as well as frescoes by Nicolaï Greschny, painter from the beginning of the 20th centurye century.

The Sourigous Lake

At the foot of the village, enjoy the Sourigous lake and its leisure center. You will find a departure point for mountain bike walks and hikes, a reception area for camper vans, a Pause Fermière with a shop selling local products, and a guinguette on stilts above the lake. You can also fish, discover many hiking trails or better discover the flora with a landscaped arboretum.

Around Salvagnac

During your escapades, you will find charming villages that offer gourmet markets and village festivals. Tauriac, Montdurausse, Montgaillard, Montvalen or La Sauzière-Saint-Jean offer you friendly stops along the paths or country roads.
