A small rural commune, Rivières would change in size in 1950 with the construction of the hydroelectric dam on the Tarn. In addition to the changes brought about by the territorial reorganization, it was the opening of the Aiguelèze base in 1976 on the dam's body of water that would tip the commune into the world of tourism and leisure.
Water sports at the Aiguelèze leisure centre

The Aiguelèze leisure centre has a sailing school, tourist residences, a campsite, tennis courts, a golf course with an instructor available for beginners, a water skiing centre, etc.
Not forgetting fishing enthusiasts, who will find in the waters of the Tarn something to tease small and large fish, with black bass, pikeperch, catfish and carp. The picnic area is ideal for relaxing and enjoying lunch in the great outdoors, and swimming in the river (in the Tarn) is supervised during the summer period.
Finally, the producers' market welcomes a joyful cohort of colors and flavors on Monday evenings during the summer in a friendly and good-natured atmosphere.
Descending the Tarn by barge
Aiguelèze is also a starting point for trips on a gabarre. Gabarres are flat-bottomed boats that, in the Middle Ages, transported products from trade on the Tarn. The river was once a real commercial highway, and the wine and pastel trades owe much of their influence in France and Europe to it.
Today the barge rides offer an incomparable view of the towns and villages along the river. The arrival in Albi is magnificent… It is also an unforgettable moment to enjoy the freshness of the river and the beauty of the landscapes, in a friendly atmosphere which sometimes even allows an aperitif on the water!
