On the edge of the Grésigne forest, the small village of Larroque offers a rare tranquility for those who know how to savor simple and authentic pleasures. In the middle of greenery, at the water's edge and at the foot of a pink limestone cliff, it is an invigorating stopover to be fully savored.
Larroque, the authentic
Nestled against its cliff, Larroque is a small, well-restored village which offers a shaded and invigorating stopover, a magnificent view of the landscape and immediate proximity to the Grésigne national forest.
The village of Larroque is on the side of a limestone cliff, which changes from ochre to red depending on the light. The cliff is pierced with cavities and caves, evidence of their troglodyte dwelling in prehistoric times. At the foot of the village winds the Vère, bringing the freshness of the river and the calm of unspoiled nature.
In the village, old half-timbered houses are grouped around a charming church with typically regional architecture. Note the two castles from the 16e and 18e centuries, including the Château de la Vère which offers fully renovated guest rooms.
This is a paradise for road cycling, hiking, mushroom picking and, for experts, big game hunting (regulated).
After the hamlet of Mespel, located on the causse above the village and offering a view of a magnificent landscape, the Notre-Dame-des-Bois chapel stands out due to its off-centre position; legend has it that, initially planned to be built in Mespel, the building materials moved during the night, suggesting divine intervention to indicate the ideal location, which was ultimately chosen.

The path of Mespel
This is a magnificent walk with a beautiful viewpoint above Larroque. It follows the path that the ancient Puycelsiens took to visit the Roucanels (inhabitants of Larroque); it makes a loop to return to Larroque following a shaded route.
