A former medieval city, Graulhet has become a leather capital since the 17th century. A city of tanneries and leather goods, it showcases its expertise through the Maison des métiers du cuir and leather goods workers.
Graulhet is a small town that was very prosperous and contributed to the industrial wealth of the Tarn thanks to its leatherworks and leatherworks in recent centuries. A capital recognized worldwide for its know-how and flourishing innovations in the leather industry, Graulhet, a veritable industrial hive, had no fewer than 150 factories in the last century: a closer look at its history and its future. Even today, prestigious leatherworks operate in Graulhet on behalf of the big names in French Haute Couture and the town can be proud of having six companies in the leather sector labeled Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant, embodying French excellence.

10:00 a.m. – Guided tour of the House of Leather Trades
A true history book on the industrial heritage of the town of Graulhet, the Maison des Métiers du Cuir offers a fascinating journey through a restored former leatherworks factory, where you will be told all the secrets of the metamorphosis of the skin and the profession of leatherworker and leatherworker. A difficult profession, each stage of which will be explained through anecdotes and testimonies. Possibility of purchasing small leather goods (handbags, purses, etc.).

Guided tour of the town of Graulhet
With its Pont Vieux, a 15th century stone bridge, the Panessac district, on the banks of the Dadou, offers evidence of Graulhet's historical past with its fortified castle which was destroyed by the wars of religion, its corbelled houses and its typical medieval streets.

12:30 p.m. – Lunch at the town restaurant.

14:30 p.m. – Departure for the Serres leather goods factory. Throughout the visit, you will discover the working methods, from the arrival of the skin to the shaping of everyday objects, objects of life (purses, wallets, handbags, etc.), loaded with a true story and marked with the French seal. You will meet these leather “seamstresses” who work with meticulousness and precision and who contribute to the reputation of French Haute Couture. (The group will be divided into two).
