Climb the path that leads to the castle and discover the tumultuous history of the lords of La Guépie. The castle preserves superb architectural elements and the visit offers a magnificent view of the Viaur valley and the villages.
Like the Penne fortress, the Laguépie castle experienced many adventures during the Crusade against the Albigensians, and that is an understatement. In 1212, the castle was burned and razed by Simon de Monfort. Rebuilt, it later came under the aegis of the Penne family who gave it to Jeanne de Toulouse in exchange for… the Penne fortress.
Razed again during the Wars of Religion, the castle rose from its ashes for two centuries before finally sinking in 1789. If there is a “small story”, the big one is never far away!
Concerts, open-air cinemas, night tours, exhibitions, etc. generally on Wednesday evenings in summer.
