The Château de Mayragues (12th – 17th centuries) and its columned dovecote, listed as a Historic Monument, in the heart of its biodynamically cultivated vineyard, raises its proud silhouette in the magnificent landscape of the Bastides Albigeoises.
The Château de Mayragues is one of the few remaining examples of regional fortified architecture, with a half-timbered and corbelled patrol path above a luminous white stone structure. The magnificent dovecote with typically Languedoc columns, the boxwood garden, the wine estate (biodynamic since 1999), the environment of woods, wheat and sunflower fields… are an ideal setting for the concerts that have been held there in the summer for 20 years.
The castle and the dovecote, listed as Historic Monuments, have benefited from an exemplary restoration over 35 years (favoring traditional materials, lime, hemp and wood) which earned them the Grand Prix des Vieilles Maisons Françaises in 1998.
The rampart path offers a unique setting for the guest rooms, which benefit from a panoramic view of the garden and the surrounding landscape. Very warm, the rooms combine antique furniture and modern comfort.
Relaxation in the garden, a visit to the winery and tasting of the estate's wines enhance a stay punctuated by discoveries on the circuit of the Bastides Albigeoises and their treasures.
