The New Astronomy Society of Cordes sur Ciel welcomes astronomy enthusiasts and neophytes all year round. The magic happens.
Secretly, you dream of admiring the Milky Way through a telescope, of contemplating the constellation Ursa Major up close, or of catching a glimpse of shooting stars through a telescope? But you are never in the right place for the Night of the Stars. Scrutinizing the celestial vault is all year round! So let yourself be drawn to two stargazing sites, far from light pollution: the Société Nouvelle d'Astronomie de Cordes sur Ciel and the Saint-Caprais observatory.
The New Society of String Astronomy

From a simple introduction to a multi-day course alongside astronomy enthusiasts, develop your knowledge of the constellations, discover the basics of celestial mechanics, learn to read a sky map and let yourself be guided out of time, into space and infinity. It is even possible to become an expert on the Little Bear with specific training.
Observations can be made at night or during the day, on site or on the move.
The observation site located at the foot of Cordes sur Ciel is accessible every Wednesday with free participation. The only condition: that the sky is clear.
One of the most powerful amateur telescopes in France
The Saint-Caprais Observatory
Three white domes stand in the middle of the fields, a few kilometers from Rabastens. Make no mistake, this is indeed an astronomy observatory. Yvon Rieugnié, a farmer, became passionate about the stars somewhat by chance. After buying a small telescope for his son, he decided to build one, piece by piece. Then a second and finally, a third of 94 cm, one of the most powerful in France, amateur category. And when he is not working the land, Yvon welcomes those who share his passion for the stars or those simply curious about astronomy. At his side, you will learn how to use a telescope, while escaping into space and time. With your eyes fixed on the telescope, some will observe a thin crescent moon, deep sky objects such as galaxies, others will recognize the rings of Saturn and its Galilean satellites.
Good to know: only open in summer.
