After a "tour of Europe" to learn the profession of violin maker. In 1983, Christian Urbita settled and created his workshop in Cordes-sur-Ciel, the birthplace of his family. Today, he devotes himself exclusively to violin making.
A violin maker since 1974, it is in England, in the prestigious workshop of WE Hill & Sons, that Christian Urbita has restored the greatest violins of Cremona: Amati, Stradivarius, Guarnerius… Passionate, stubborn, he draws, measures these instruments that he studies in the smallest details.
After creating his workshop in Cordes-sur-Ciel, founding the European workshop of luthiers and bow makers, he was president of the music festival of Cordes sur CielOn this occasion, he invites luthiers and bow makers from all over the world as well as prestigious composers such as Henri Dutilleux, György Kurtág, Thierry Escaich, Philippe Hersant, Thomas Adès… as well as renowned solo violinists such as Augustin Dumay, Renaud Capuçon, Pierre Fouchenneret…
In the early 2000s, he decided to rethink the current violin in its entirety. It took him 13 years of research to achieve this. The exceptional instruments that come out of Christian Urbita's workshop are destined to vibrate today and for centuries to come...
