The day is barely breaking, yet the fishermen come to take their places on the banks. In Gaillac and its surroundings, it is good to fish in the first gentle rays of the sun. The natural and essential version of "calm, luxury and voluptuousness".

Lakes and rivers, a fisherman's paradise

The Tarn, a powerful river renowned among fishermen, offers a wealth of fish and two courses for handling the rod. To the west of Gaillac, several sites welcome beginners and experienced fishermen. Lisle-sur-tarn, Bellevue Lake (labeled Tourism and Handicap) extends over 4 hectares and has a pontoon dedicated to fishermen. And for the next fishing session, go to the Sourigous leisure center in Salvagnac. Another option, the Nabeilhou Lake in Graulhet (labeled Tourism and Handicap), rich in activities that will delight the whole family and in particular, those who do not have the patience of seasoned fishermen 😉.

The fishing card

Don't worry, no exam to pass. When you buy a fishing license, you join the local fishing association whose mission is to preserve the environment, manage access and provide practical information: regulations, fishing date, fishing category, etc. That way, there is no risk of catching a protected fish.
The fishing license is for the day or the year, for young and old.

Aquatic bestiary

You will find a wide variety of fish in the lakes and rivers around Gaillac. Carp is particularly present in the Tarn, as is catfish. Zander, pike, black bass, catfish, crucian carp, roach, bleak, perch, bream… could also tickle your line.
We also find one of the three species of crayfish native to France: the white-clawed crayfish.
But hands off! Dams, river development, livestock, the causes of the decline of this species are numerous. Endangered, the arrival of the American crayfish, a healthy carrier of the crayfish plague, completes this rather sinister picture. As you will have understood, its fishing is prohibited.
And it is to better understand the environmental issues that it is compulsory to have a fishing license to indulge in this leisure activity.

Family fishing

Heading towards Lake Auzerals (labeled Tourism and Disability) in Rabastens for a day of sharing. This body of water is home to a fishing course labeled “family”. While some are teasing the fish, others are enjoying the facilities: swimming area, barbecue, games… A treat for the whole tribe, and we don’t hesitate to swap roles during the day!

Beat Records

It's the size that matters!

La fishing also sometimes animates the competitive spirit of enthusiasts, each wanting to have the best catch, the biggest fish! In the Tarn, it is between Gaillac and Labastide-de-Lévis that predator fishermen meet: a reference spot for fishing professionals! So who will beat the record for the biggest catfish at the next fishing competition in the Tarn? The last one is 2,71 meters.
