Here is a circuit that invites you to a family outing in the heart of the vineyard with superb views of the Tarn Valley. The little extra: the visit of wine estates on the road.

Profile

  • Distance: 25 km
  • Duration: 1/2 day
  • Height difference: + 500m

What I like about this circuit are the viewpoints, especially the small valley and its lake. There is also the historical dimension with the presence of the tumulus and Montaigut.

Step 1

Plain and hillsides

The first highlight? The tumulus of Saint-Salvy, this mysterious mound of earth shaped by the hand of man. As you climb to the heights, a reward awaits you: breathtaking viewpoints that adorn the horizon. The descent into the forgotten valley is a deep breath. You will pass by the church of Montaigut with a magical viewpoint over the vineyard and Lisle-sur-Tarn on the horizon. Further on, a stop is essential on the heights of Saurs, where the gently undulating hills tell the story of the symbiosis between man and the vine.

Step 2

Descent through the vineyards

For epicureans, the sequel promises an unforgettable discovery: a visit to one of the region's wine estates. At the foot of the Castle of Saurs, Domaine de Borie Vieille or Saint-Laurent de Saurs Estate, all labeled Vineyards & Discoveries, you immerse yourself in the world of Gaillac wines. Each pedal stroke brings you a little closer to the land and its soul. This circuit is much more than a sporting course: it is an ode to beauty, taste and history, an adventure that nourishes the body as much as the mind.

Every Thursday morning from June to August, between 10 a.m. and 13 p.m., you can visit the majestic vaulted cellar and gardens of the Château de Saurs, a must-see.

Prepare your exit

This mountain bike route is offered by Jean-François of Vélos de Léonce. If necessary, rent your equipment directly from his shop, at the starting point of the route.
